The EMBRACE project, led by HAMK (Finland) with partners from Brazil, Colombia, and Portugal, launched a trilogy of MOOCs to train educators in digital and pedagogical skills, based on the ADDIEM model and DigCompEdu framework. The courses are available in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

The launch ceremony for the Embrace project’s MOOCs took place on 21 May 2025 at 10am and can be watched at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/live/_Oe_e95GsL8

EMBRACE is a project led by the Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), a Finnish institution, and joined by institutions from Brazil, Colombia and Portugal: Federal Institute of Espírito Santo – IFES (Brazil), Federal Institute of São Paulo – IFSP (Brazil), Federal University of ABC – UFABC (Brazil), Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira – UTP (Colombia), Fundacion Universitaria del Area Andina – AREANDINA (Colombia) and Polytechnic Institute of Braganca – IPB (Portugal). With the idea of looking to the future and supporting the modernisation of higher education, the project aims to train educators, improving their pedagogical and digital skills and integration with the world of work, through accessible, flexible and high-quality online learning.

Using a modern approach, it works on training through a trilogy of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), bringing together interactive content, global collaboration and cutting-edge teaching strategies. Designed on the basis of the ADDIEM model and aligned with the European Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu), these courses support professional development in digital education – anytime, anywhere. Each MOOC was based on two areas of DigCompEdu, with the trilogy addressing the framework as a whole.

Regarding the DigCompEdu progression levels adopted at Embrace, the focus was on the Integrator level (B1), in which teachers experiment with digital technologies in various contexts and purposes, integrating them into many of their practices in a creative way. In some complementary and more advanced content and activities, the B2 (Expert) level was also worked on.

For production, 25 teachers and other staff members from Brazil, Colombia, Portugal and Finland were distributed in the three MOOCs. Therefore, there were many teachers, from different institutions, countries, cultures and languages, working together and producing content and activities in their own language, which later had some kind of translation. The MOOCs produced therefore bring a multicultural perspective and can be taken in three different languages (English, Portuguese or Spanish).
